A method of geodesic image and video processing is proposed. In an embodiment, the method uses a geodesic distance transform to construct an image filter. The filter can be used in a variety of image editing operations such as segmentation, denoising, texture smoothing, image stitching and cartooning. In one embodiment, the method may be made efficient by utilizing parallelism of the algorithm to carry out processing steps on at least two processing cores concurrently.
